Throughout 2024 and 2025, Caedmon Community Primary School had been working incredibly hard to earn the School of Sanctuary Award.
School of Sanctuary is an initiative which aims to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students, especially those seeking refuge, by fostering understanding, empathy and a culture of belonging. It helps schools raise awareness about the experiences of people forced to flee, develops staff expertise in supporting new arrivals, and builds a community where everyone feels safe and everyone is seen as equal and valued members of our community.
We are very proud to announce that we have successfully been granted the award on the 27th June 2025.
We are committed to being a welcoming and safe place for everyone, especially children and families seeking sanctuary who may have felt marginalised or whose lives were in danger in their own country and are looking for a place of safety.
We are committed to ensuring that our children learn through our curriculum to understand what it means to be seeking sanctuary and to encourage students to engage in community initiatives, promote social justice, and develop an understanding of human rights and diversity.
We work closely with the EMTAS (Ethnic Minority and Traveller Achievement Service) Team to further promote inclusion, curricular access and to raise awareness of linguistic, cultural and religious diversity.
Caedmon Primary School is proud to be seen as a place of both safety and inclusion. It promotes the emotional health and wellbeing of all its pupils and parents through listening to their needs; having a welcoming and supportive manner and taking necessary action to create both a happy and safe school environment.
